Spicy Calamari with Martina’s Cocktail Sauce
2 medium bowls
small sauce bowl
plastic wrap to cover bowls
baking sheet with paper towels
1 lb cleaned calamari, cut into rings tentacles left whole
2 cups flour
2 tsp salt
1 tsp Martina’s Spicy Powder (optional, you may use paprika and cayenne as well)
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 tsp Martina’s Original Hot Sauce
vegetable or canola oil for frying
lemon and parsley for garnish
Martina’s Cocktail Sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 1/3 tbsp Martina’s Original
2 tsp horseradish
salt & pepper to taste
Step 1: Combined ketchup, hot sauce and horseradish in a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate. Step 2: Clean, cut and dry the calamari. Place buttermilk and Martina’s Hot Sauce in a bowl. Toss in the calamari, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Step 2: Place flour, salt and spice in a bowl; stir to combine.
Step 3: Preheat frying oil in pot to 375 degrees.
Step 4: Remove pieces of calamari from the buttermilk and dredge in flour mixture. Repeat this process until all pieces are coated.
Step 5: Place a few pieces of calamari in the hot oil at a time. This is done to prevent oil temperature from dropping. Cook for about 2 – 3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on the paper towel. Squeeze lemon, sprinkle with salt and fresh chopped parsley. Serve with the cocktail sauce and ENJOY!!!
